Storm Wilson, PT, DPT

Physical Therapy

Dickson Medical Associates proudly welcomes Storm Wilson, PT, DPT as their new physical therapist. Wilson comes to DMA from Results Physiotherapy in Clarksville, TN where he has worked since 2018.

Located at 766 Hwy 46 South in Dickson, DMA Physical Therapy provides an array of quality therapeutic services in orthopedics, sports medicine and joint rehabilitation. As part of the DMA Physical Therapy team, Wilson will work alongside clinic director Josh Vaughn, DPT.

Experienced in rehabilitating a wide age range, Wilson’s approach to care emphasizes manual therapy in conjunction with movement modification and retraining for patients with various neuromusculoskeletal conditions, diseases or syndromes.

“As a therapist, I enjoy working on all areas of the body; however, I have a particular interest in restoring motion to hips, knees, ankles and feet,” said Wilson

Wilson’s pursuit of becoming a physical therapist stems from a passion for fitness instilled in him by his father. As a teen, Wilson’s father taught him how to properly exercise and introduced him to competitive sports like basketball and running. This passion, combined with an interest to pursue a medically-focused career, led Wilson to earn his Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2014. Wilson then received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Tennessee State University in 2018.

When it comes to helping patients with their therapy, Wilson sees knowledge as the primary foundation towards recovery.

“Often times, people understand what’s actually wrong with them and as a result, they tend to develop some anxiety about having the worst possible diagnosis,” said Wilson. “This anxiety tends to exacerbate symptoms and can lead to a cascade of additional symptoms brought on by this lack understanding.”

Wilson advocates that through education and a developed plan of action these cascading symptoms can be mitigated and improved.

Another key to rehabilitation, Wilson emphasizes, is the importance of good mechanics while doing exercises. Thorough communication between therapist and patient is paramount because the therapist cannot exactly feel how exercises are affecting symptoms.

“Exercise should not reproduce your familiar symptoms,” said Wilson. “Often times people tend to think ‘no pain, no gain’ is the appropriate mentality. This is not the case. You should feel better with what we’re doing.”

Outside of the clinic, Wilson enjoys tending to his yard, running 5k races and staying relevant with his physical therapy education by reading topical books. As a runner, Wilson hopes to participate in half-marathons in the future.

As he establishes his practice, Wilson looks to gain additional certifications as an orthopedic specialist, dry needling specialist and functional medicine practitioner. By being a more holistic therapist, Wilson hopes he can play a larger primary care role. Wilson also looks forward to connecting with the running community in Dickson. He wants local runners to know he is here to help people work on their speed and mechanics for long-distance races.

Storm Wilson, PT, DPT is available to see patients Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Appointments can be made by phone at 615-560-5112.
