Weight Management

Complete Medical Evaluation

Detailed Weight History: Weight loss is not a one size fits all plan. Learning what triggered the weight gain, and information on past weight loss attempts will help us formulate your plan for the future.

Laboratory Exam: We offer onsite blood collection. At your first appointment, we will recommend lab work to determine if there is a metabolic contributor to your weight gain. Lab work will also help guide us in choosing a weight loss plan for you, making it safe and effective.

Medication Review: Many medications used for conditions such as migraine headaches, depression, insomnia, neuropathic pain, and birth control can contribute to weight gain. We will review you medications with you so that you can discuss with your prescribing practitioner if there are other available options.

Physical Exam: Your health and safety is our top priority. At your first visit, you will receive a thorough physical exam to make sure that you are healthy enough to embark on a weight loss journey. This will include an EKG to evaluate your heart rhythm. At subsequent visits, you will have focused exams to ensure we are giving you the most effective and safe care.

Dietary Guidance

Have you heard that weight loss is 95% diet and 5% exercise? It’s true! Exercise is vitally important for muscle and heart health. However, if the goal is weight loss, then intake is the most important factor, and this is where we focus. There is not just one plan that will work for everyone. We will work with you to develop a strategy that will not just work for today, but for years to come.

Activity Planning

While weight loss is 95% diet and 5% exercise, exercise is one of the keys that helps ward off weight regain, helps push past weight loss plateaus, and tones the body to raise the resting metabolic rate. We have partnered with DMA’s certified Physical Therapist Josh Vaughn, to help develop exercise plans. He and his team will give you a thorough evaluation and set recommendations on where to start. This is still also no judgement zone. They will meet you where you are to help get you to where you want to be.

FDA Approved Prescriptions

All of us need a little help sometimes. We will work with you to determine if an FDA approved medication is right for you. Some insurance companies cover weight loss medications, some do not. We will help navigate this confusing system to determine which medications are the most cost effective. You can help speed this process by looking at your medication formulary for weight loss medications, or by calling your insurance company and asking if they have any weight loss medications on formulary.

Metabolic Rate Testing

Metabolism is the process of converting food (calories) into energy. The efficiency with which your body does this is referred to as your metabolic rate. Many factors affect a person’s metabolic rate: weight, age, body composition, hormone levels, and gender making it a highly unique number. Understanding your body’s unique metabolic rate will allow your practitioner to customize your weight loss or maintenance program around your needs.

Metabolic Rate testing can screen for a slowed metabolism that may explain frustrated attempts to lose weight in the past. It can reveal changes in your metabolism during the weight loss process that can help trouble shoot a frustrating plateau. Once you reach your goal, an RMR measurement can give you the precise caloric prescription for maintenance to help you sustain that goal weight.

Natural Weight Loss

Many patients want to achieve their weight loss goals naturally, but still find they need help beyond lifestyle changes. There are many products out there claiming to produce weight loss through all natural dietary supplements. Also, herbal medications can have potential side effects and should not be taken with certain health conditions. Let us help guide you through supplements that have proven results.

Hormone Replacement

As we all age, the hormones that drive our bodies decline. For some they drop very quickly triggering unpleasant symptoms, one of the most prominent being weight gain. When the hormones are balanced out, these symptoms improve, and you can be more effective at controlling weight through diet. Other potential benefits are increased energy levels, better sleep, a more youthful appearance, and increased sex drive. We work with a local compounding pharmacy to provide topical bio-identical hormones, at doses that are tailored specifically to you.

Hormone replacement is not right for everyone. For some, it can pose a dangerous risk. We will discuss these risk with you to determine if you are a good candidate.

Preparation for Weight Loss Surgery

For some bariatric surgery is the best chance of dramatic long term weight loss. Surgical options may be appropriate for you if your body mass index (BMI) is 35 or greater and you have at least one chronic health issue such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, depression, or arthritis. We can help you determine if weight loss surgery is right for you. It is covered by many insurances, including Medicaid plans.

We can help with the preparation for weight loss surgery. Most weight loss centers and insurance companies require 6 months of diet and lifestyle modification supervised by a medical provider, along with a letter of recommendation from that provider. We have experience guiding patients through this 6 month process and preparing them for surgery. We will also be here for you once the surgeon has released you. Once maximum weight loss has been achieved, patients should have yearly nutritional monitoring and coaching to avoid deficiencies and weight regain.

Comprehensive Nutritional Evaluation

Weight loss is hard, and sometimes our bodies are not in the right balance to achieve effective weight loss. Sometimes our weight loss efforts cause us to be deficient in particular vitamins and minerals. But how do we know what we are lacking? Traditional blood work only gives a limited picture of our nutritional needs. Furthermore, the natural flora in the gut can get off balance leaving the system in a state where it produces and absorbs more sugars.

This is why we have partnered with Genova Diagnostics to bring you NutraEval and GI Effects testing. NutraEval testing will provide you with a detailed report of what type of nutrients you are missing and at what doses you need to take supplements. GI Effects will give you a detailed report of your GI flora so that you can choose the correct pre and pro-biotic supplements.

Many insurance companies now pay for weight loss services, particularly if you have chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or heart disease. We will work with you to determine if our services can be covered under your insurance.

We also offer self-pay rates.
Pay as you go: Initial consult $100
Follow up consults $80
Metabolic Rate Testing: $120
